Memo from Hockey Alberta regarding Equipment:
Here is the text of a memo from Hockey Alberta regarding properly wearing equipment. A link will be posted soon for the memo.

OFFICIALS ARE EXPECTED TO READ THE MEMO AND ENFORCE THE RULE ACCORDINGLY

Date: January 18, 2019
To: MHAs and Leagues
From: Curtis Nichols, Manager, Officiating

SUBJECT: Protective Equipment and Rule 3.6

This Memorandum is a reminder to all hockey participants in Alberta of the importance of wearing protective equipment in the manner intended.

All participants are expected to properly secure helmets, chin straps, and neck guards.

The rulebook requires that all helmets be CSA certified with the sticker visible and not tampered with. All neck protectors must by BNQ certified and positioned on the neck to provide the protection intended. The chinstrap must be snug enough under the chin so that the strap cannot come over the chin. The officiating team has full discretion regarding these matters and are expected to enforce them appropriately in all games, at all levels.

A player’s safety is the primary responsibility of the officiating team and we take this responsibility seriously. When communicating to the players and coaches our concerns and the requirements to fix the concern, we ask that all coaches, leagues, and minor hockey associations understand why we are doing so and provide the support necessary to ensure the safety issues are addressed.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Your support in keeping our game safe is greatly appreciated.
