3 south zone officials had a very good week last week! Jordan Lightbown was selected to referee the Telus Cup bronze medal game in Leduc on Sunday April 29th. Chris Schlenker and Lucas Johnson worked the C final at the Alberta Cup on Sunday April 29th as well. Chris was selected to referee and Lucas worked the lines. Congrats to all three of our guys for putting on a good show for the zone!

Hats off to Jodi MacDonald and Matt Barker for being selected to work the Doyle Cup this weekend in Brooks.

The Doyle Cup is the Junior A championship between the AJHL Champion Brooks Bandits and BCJHL Champion Penticton Vees.

Congrats guys… do us proud!!

The South Zone AGM was held last night in Taber and elections were held for the following positions:

Chairman – David Shaw – Acclaimed for a 2 year term

Directors – Matt Barker elected on first ballot and Rick Deobald after numerous ballots against five other candidates. Both positions are 2 year terms

Secretary – Matt Pelzmann – elected on the second ballot for a 2 year term.

Treasurer – Aaron Brown – appointed for another 1 year.

The South Zone would like to thank the out going members of the executive, Darryl Shimbashi, Shawn Kergan and Ken Heggie. Their hours of dedication and hard work were appreciated by the executive and the members of the zone.

Congratulations to Jordan Lightbown who was selected to represent the South Zone as a referee at the Telus Cup in Leduc in the last week of April.

This is one of the highest profile minor hockey tournaments and is the championship tournament for Midget AAA hockey for all of Canada.  5 zone championship teams from across the country (Pacific, West, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) and the host Leduc Oil Kings will play for the Telus Cup and many of the players at this tournament move on to play major junior as well as professional hockey.

We wish Bear the best and know he will do us proud!!

Sunday assignments will be issued by Shawn Kergen after the conclusion of Saturday’s games.

Also note that dress code is in effect for this tournament.  NO jeans, t-shirts, sweat pants, hockey jackets, or ball caps are to be worn to the rink for assignments.  Look professional, be professional.

Congratulations to the crews working the finals for the Midget B Provincials in Brooks on the weekend.

The crews selected for the Semi-Finals were Barret Bain(Ref), Darryl Shimbashi(Lines) and Clive Joseph(Lines) in the Pool A, and Carey Kopp(Ref), Robert Proulx(Lines)and Jason Wandler(Lines). 

The Final was officiated by Kathy Boucha(Ref), Randon Hok(Lines) and Ethan Redpath(Lines).

All officials this weekend represented the Zone well.

The March schedule for Lethbridge has been updated for this weekend’s games. There will be no further updates this season as most hockey on the senior schedule is finished after this weekend. Thanks for your assistance this season and we look forward to a great 2012-13 season.

Location:             Pheasant Back Golf and Country Club

                                                                 Stettler, Alberta

Time:                            2:00 PM

Bus transportation will be provided from theHolidayinn.  Buses will be boarding at 11:00 and leaving at 11:30 a.m. There will be a barbecue to follow.  To register for the golf tournament or barbecue, contactLance McKinnonat (403)669-4654 (Lance_McKinnon@keyera.com) by May 10, 2012.   Cost of golf (including carts and barbecue) will be available later but will be around $90.00.   Lance will have a firm price when the course confirms it.  Golf is a shotgun start at 2:00 p.m.

There will be motions presented at the AGM to: amend the By-laws as follows:

1. to allow the Provincial Executive to approve life membership

2. to change the method of giving notice of the AGM

3. to require nomination for the Provincial Chairman to be submitted in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the AGM

Our annual general meeting this year will be held on Monday April 2/2012 At 7 pm in Taber. Please bring any questions or concerns and any new business you would like to talk about. As well we will be voting for the chairman position (Dave Shaw)  and two director positions (Ken Heggie and Shaun Kergen). Please come we have important issues to talk about.
